The Power of Great Blogs and SEO

The Power of Great Blogs and SEO

Search engines love blogs. A keyword rich and frequently updated blog is a wellspring of relevant, categorized information, which make it digital gold for search bots. However, perfect search engine optimization can be counter intuitive if you want to write high quality content for your handful of frequent visitors. Fortunately you can have the best of both worlds by following a few simple rules to keeping your blog search engine and reader friendly.

Rule 1: You’ve probably been following the first rule of blog optimization without knowing it, particularly if your focus is on quality rather than quantity. Search engines learn about your blog’s general topics and themes over time. You can help them do this by keeping your blog on topic, while enclosing those topics within lots of independent information. This fusion of known values and associated new content is key to the success and growth of a search engine platform so they won’t miss a chance to learn from you –do this and the bots will adore your blog.

Rule 2: There are some parts of your blog that bots will care more about than others; page titles, meta tags, and blog headings are their favourites. If you have a hosted blog, be sure to fill in meta tags and page names under the blog preferences. It’s easy to miss out these important search sign posts when you aren’t building a page from scratch. Also, give your blog entries keyword rich titles, which perhaps echo sections of the blog entry itself!

Rule 3: Keep it readable! Don’t compromise the readability of your blog in favour of keyword dumping. Your blog is also ranked by the number of reciprocal links and page visitors you receive so don’t alienate your readers by throwing botox injections, coffee vending machines, hair loss, baldness, smart lipo and tattoo removal keywords into every other sentence. There’s a place for all those things to be covered in individual blog entries.

Rule 4: Use it, or lose it! It doesn’t take much to upset a bot, and their biggest peeve is arriving at a page for a routine indexing and discovering that there’s no new information. It takes time to encourage frequent bot visits, so don’t ruin the party by missing a scheduled post. Come up with a schedule and stick to it; if it’s once a week, then make sure it’s once a week! If it’s more frequently then be sure to keep it up!

So there you go, you really don’t have to compromise the quality of your blog content to keep it bot friendly. Given a little time and with regular updating your blog can become a favourite hangout for search engine bots and humans!
