We’ve all seen them. Walk into any grocery store or retail outlet and you’re sure to see signs propped up everywhere or pop up display stands outside shops. What are they for? Well, to promote or advertise a certain product or service. Are they effective? Well, yes, or they wouldn’t use them. Now how exactly do they work? Let’s get started on the basic use to increase sales. And by the way, the proper name for these is “Point of Sales Displays.”One example is a poster.
Go to any movie store, or theater, and you’re sure to see them everywhere. They stand out, they are covered in picture and neat text, and if all else fails, you might just buy the poster. One of the more popular examples of point of sales displays, are shelf talkers. They are normally directly next to the product on sale or next to a product similar to that in which they are selling. For example, if you’re buying bleach, they may put one next to a competitor brand of bleach, as they know if you see that sign you are obviously in need or interest of bleach. Sounds effective right?
By now you may have even realized that some of the methods listed above have had an impact on your shopping or selection of various services. I know I have, and on multiple occasions. One last example is what is referred to as dumps. Dumps are basically large cardboard signs that sit directly on the floor and are usually found in the very front of the store or location. These are reserved for the big dogs, as they are slightly more expensive to produce, so they are used in moderation and selected very carefully. Now that you know a little more about the use of sales displays to increase sales, you’re sure to notice them even more the next time you go shopping. And don’t worry, they’re not a scheme, so it’s okay to buy.
